Description

Born in the North, attended West Point and Yale and Harvard. Moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky. At start of Civil War, he decided to raise a company cavalry. Be came acquainted Adam Rankin Johnson; and joined their cavalries. After the fall of Fort Donalson, Clarksville was a depot of supplies for the Union. Due to low river levels, the Union could not ship supplies to Nashville and were dumping them in Clarksville. In August 18, 1862, Woodard and Johnson decided to attack Clarksville, They surrounded the town and Clarksville surrounded . They met with Captain Rodney Mason of the 71st Ohio. Woodard died in Hopkinsville, Kentucky while trying to recapture it from the Union
