Abstract

Description

Author's thesis statement: The aim of my project was to create a dynamic action scene while integrating 2D and 3D elements into a cohesive whole. I initially didn’t have a concept for a story, world, characters or plot, so most of the heavy liFing of the project was aesthetics. This project familiarized me with Toon Boom Harmony, modeling in Maya, background and layout design. The concept behind the main character was ‘sonic holography’—manipulating physical matter with sound to generate holograms. The main inspiration for this idea is Jerobeam Fenderson’s artworks and music that sync music with sound-generated oscilloscope visuals. Secondary inspirations include John Whitney Sr.’s ‘Arabesque’ and the holographic weapon visuals from the games Final Fantasy XV and Elden Ring. The ‘story’ of my thesis is…a chase scene. There’s not much in terms of characterization, plot or anything. It was pretty much a framing device to practice character/action animation.
