| dc.description | The "Helena" docked at Milk River Landing, 460 miles below Fort Benton. The Sioux City and Northern Packet Company, known as the Benton Line, the Power Line, or the Benton Transportation Company, was formally organized in 1879. It was a combination of four transportation companies (the Power Line, the Baker Line, the Charles Line, and the Benton Line). Fort Benton was the last navigable steamboat port on the Missouri River. The founder of the Benton Line was Thomas Charles Powers hence the "P" in the smokestacks. | |
