Abstract
Description
Opening day at the Clarksville Airport. Identified are: Miss Francis Rollow, John Outlaw, Pete Neblette, Louis Edwards, Bill Irby, Dick Hofman, and Lt. Douglas. The order of names are not known. In the 1920s, John F. Outlaw, who has been called the father of aviation in Clarksville, began operating a private field in the northern part of Montgomery County. Shortly thereafter, a group of public spirited citizens purchased land necessary for an airport. This purchase of 225 acres from J.C. Caroland in 1929 paved the way for additional purchases and expansion of services and facilities.
